A life drawing event with a break, featuring unique, traditional Turkish live music ...

Schedule:

7-8 pm: quick 10 / 20 minute nude poses.

8 - 8.30 pm: live Turkish music by Numan

8.30 - 10 pm: one 30 minute pose with female nude model and another 1 hour pose with Numan (musician) and Katya Kan (artist/curator)

Throughout the life drawing, you will receive guidance by reputable, classical art teacher, Philip Firsov.

Please, bring 10 pounds in cash to pay at the door. Doors open at 6 pm with a private view happening in the venue upstairs for the art of Martina de Matteo. We will supply charcoal, pencils and acrylics, but please bring your own paper, canvases and board depending on what media you will use. After the life drawing ends, you are welcome to stay and listen to tunes by our resident DJ, Hal9million.

Bios:

Katya Kan:

An idiosyncratic specimen of globalisation, Kan was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, my father being North Korean and my mother Russian. Having caught a glimpse of the ex-USSR, she has a conflicting perception of political and cultural systems. Unable to fully assimilate into any one culture, she finds herself as an outsider with an eclectic artistic taste. The concepts, which she explores in her work, include globalization, surveillance, nostalgia, utopia and eroticism. She has exhibited at ICA London, Whitechapel Gallery, Royal Watercolor Society, NYC Untitled Space, the New York Art Expo as well as the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

Martina de Matteo:

Being yourself, finding yourself and expressing yourself. What I always say, is that when I am painting I meditate, I just forget about everything else. My mind slowly becomes empty, becomes free and it starts to breath. So I become alive. The mind fascinates me, it has always done. Painting and giving a thought, a vision that is shouting in my mind, what is deeply hidden, a form of life, is simply incredible. Anyone can express their own feelings and emotions, in any way or form they like. I do express myself and what I am feeling whilst I am painting. I am a Neapolitan artist, based in London, who arose from the art and the images I have seen, the places I have been and the events that continuously capture me. Normally whilst I am painting I never have a specific plan in my mind, it is always an experiment, I paint without allowing any time to my brain to THINK about what to do. I love to sit and to see myself where my creativity is able to go. (or how far my creativity is able to go). It is a process, a cycle “brain-visualization-hands-creation”. This process activates every time I see a canvas, a wall or an empty space. My brain sees it, begin to imagine things through my eyes and, finally, create them through pencils and colours. My art works are “alive mind’s visualizations”, where I leave the full freedom to my hands to move and create. What I picture (or what I show ) is something that others can interpret without restraint in their own different ways. Every single line or face or object of my works, are part of me since I was a child, so what is absurd is the fact that only recently I have matured ( or I have achieved the awareness ) that they mean something bigger: they represent my pace, my trace in this world. I achieve a perfect balance between lightness, creativity and actuality. They talk about the reality. Wtithin the light chaos of my thoughts, then painted, there is always one element in common with our lives, with what is currently happening around us. My works are living of bright colours. Shining and sharp colours that reflect what my personality is. I want the people to be captured from them. When I paint, I find myself and I enjoy myself playing with my imagination. It is like giving a shape to clouds. Do you ever do it? 

Philip Firsov: Philip Firsov is a British painter and sculptor of Russian origin. Born in Moscow in the family of two Russian composers Elena Firsova and Dmitri Smirnov, he left Russia in the age of 6. The family settled in England. From the age of 15 he studied art privately with Russian Artist and Restorer Alexander Kolesnik, and then continued his education in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Foundation, Slade School of Fine Art, BA in Fine Art, and Prince's Drawing School, Post Graduate Scheme.
